So a few weeks back my Town Car started to do this. On occasion no matter whether the engine is hot or cold, whether the temperature outside is hot or cold, or the climate is damp or dry, for whatever reason sometimes it starts up and misfires violently, when you press the gas normally it doesn't want to accept it and it spews and stutters, and eventually dies. And there's the smell of gasoline from the engine. When it does this if you start and immediately keep on the gas a lot it runs, also if you were driving it, it hesitates, but evens out after a mile or so.
I have a 2000 lincoln continental and initially a transmission overheat message came on so I stopped for a while and everything seemed to be good..fluid level and no leaks. Started it back up and it was gone. It did this again couple days later but also check engine light came on and p1744 code is what it is reading. So I have done a coolant flush and chamged trans filter and fluid..but not in torque converter.
Ok, so my car needed water added to it. My dad was so kind as to add water to it for me. Unfortunately, as he was pouring the water in, he realized it was not the coolant reservoir. Problem is, I don't know what it was that he put water in. I can't find a picture anywhere that tells me which fluid goes where. Can anybody help me? PLEASE!!! He poured it into a plastic reservoir on the passenger side, about halfway under the hood... I'm scared to drive my car and I can't buy a manual til Thursday. Thank you for your time and help...I really appreciate it!!
